Judge Emmett: enjoying the publicity?

Yesterday, with rain pouring down on Houston, Judge Ed Emmett held a news conference atEdemmett  Transtar.  The news conference was timely, and brought several agencies together at one place to talk about the ongoing storms.  Yesterday afternoon, his folks were quick to send out a news release touting another press conference today, to talk about Hurricane Dean, still not yet in the gulf.  Of course, all the local news agencies are here, including myself, quick to jump on the coverage of a possible impending hurricane.  I can't help wonder, though, whether this news conference is one solely for information.  I mean, Emmett is expecting a contested primary, after all.  None of his Republican opponents get a stage like hurricane season to show their "judge-worthiness."  Mayor Bill White, who does not have a serious opponent, will not be at the news conference, but the head of his Office of Emergency Management will be.  Two years ago, during Rita, when neither Eckels nor White faced any political storms, both men appeared at joint news conferences.  Am I reading too much into this? Maybe, maybe not... but worth chewing on.

I just want Eckels back. Rita burned him but he shone during Katrina. Didn't perceive him (Eckels) as the photo op type as Emmett. I think you're right on track with your assessment.
