Lykos, Olson wins... Dems pay attention

be08runoffWith all the numbers not yet in.. it looks like the two candidates backed by the Republican establishment have won their respective run offs.  On the left, you see (hopefully, because I can't) the graphics of the run-off turnout numbers and comparisons by the Harris County Clerk's office.

Pat Lykos, who was backed by a number of local precinct chairs, edged out Kelly Siegler for the Republican DA's spot.  In the meantime, veteran Congressional staffer Pete Olson beat Shelley Sekula-Gibbs for the nomination of Congressional District 22.  The post, currently held by Rep. Nick Lampson, is being closely watched by both Dems and Republicans nationally.  It's the top target for both parties.  Understanding that Olson will be a tough challenger, the Lampson folks wasted no time in sending out a press release tonight, even before the 10pm news was over:

"Congressman Lampson has promoted NASA while his opponent didn't know the name of the Johnson Space Center in a recent debate.  He has worked on transportation issues while his opponent supports more toll roads and a big government land grab called the Trans-Texas Corridor.  And he has worked for affordable health care while his opponent opposes the State Children's Health Insurance Program.  Congressman Lampson is an independent voice for Texas.  His opponent is a Washington insider with little or no knowledge of this district."

Well... looks like all sides are starting on a friendly foot (right...)  Let's hope Lykos and Olson get to celebrate their hard fought wins tonight... you know there will be plenty of work in the months to come.
