What did Bush say at Olson Fundraiser?
The President's folks didn't let the press in, but we got some exclusive video of POTUS talking up a storm at Pete Olson's fundraiser on July 18th. Click and take a look. transcript below the link.
Wall Street got drunk, it got drunk, (it’s one of the reasons I asked you to turn off your tv cameras.) It got drunk and now it’s got a hangover. The question is how long will it sober up, and not try to do all these fancy financial instruments.
And now we got a housing issue, not in Houston, and evidently, not in Dallas, because Laura was over there trying to buy a house today. (laugher.. Crawford!)
I like Crawford, unfortunately after eight years of asking her to sacrifice, I’m now no longer the decision maker. She’ll be deciding, thanks for the suggestion! I suggest you don’t yell it out when she’s here. Later, telling her “Hey honey, we’ve been on government pay now for 14 years... so go slow!"
It’s uh.. caused me to lose my train of thought. Anyway.
The entire video runs about 2 minutes, the portion with the President runs just around a minute.

Hey your on Drudge and The Hill

Nice job Miya!

Great scoop! You got your hands on something that Bush would never be caught dead doing, blaming his Wall Street buddies.
Miya...baby, you just flat out ROCK!
Congratulations on the great work.

Though not likely to be posted on this blog - I'm ashamed of you and your disrespectful behavior - obviously trying to get "scoop" even after being requested to not record the casual conversation of another person. Even though of course, the only result is knowing that the President is indeed a real person, and that his honesty is based on the obvious nature of the Wall Street business... you are the embarrassing one. It's all about you, isn't it "Miya baby"....
Yes - 'exclusive' video - anyone with a cell phone can violate the requests of others, including the President of the United States. Evidently you are much more important than common human courtesy for anyone. I recommend you don't ever point your recording device at me without my permission. You deserve to be prosecuted.
Othewise - what he said was correct.

freakin liberal reporter.

Sounds like a good analogy. Not sure why this is being made to be a big deal.

Be proud of yourself for breaking the trust of an important figure who has actually worked for our country. News scavengers are as scummy as Paparazzi. Let your friends know that you can be trusted LOL!

Great scoop in general, and congratulations.
On thing, though: You make a factual error towards the end. Like his father before him, Mr. Bush's native state is Connecticut, not Texas.

ConcernedPerson: There's no evidence that Miya recorded this video -- just that she broadcast it. Therefore, there is no evidence that Miya didn't comply with Mr. Bush's request. (You would prefer the video to just bubble along on YouTube?)
On the other hand, a constitutional conservative would say that the only reason to keep something secret is because one has something to hide. You're right that Mr. Bush appears to act just like another citizen in this video. The question is, Why is he so ashamed of that that he wants to hide it? Why would he take so un-American a position? Why isn't he proud?

When the cameras are off and The Pres speaks his mind, he makes a lot more sense. The prepared pablum usually is like a T.V. dinner. I appreciate these comments more than just about everything he has said in speaches. Let them know what you really think Pres.

Once again, he proves himself to be the self-serving jerk that we know him to be. How "funny" that most people can't even consider the things that he's joking about. Not surprising that he makes light of the plight of the rest of the US. He's been insulated from the rest of us his entire life.
Can't wait for this presidential debacle to be over.

Meanwhile 2,000,000 million illegals just crossed the US Border.

I can't agree more with MiyaFan. How low will you " journalist" stoop? Again 13 tries to be the " Enquirer" of the local news scene. What's wrong - there was no "pseudo" flood to cover - no overblown storm watch ? I especially enjoyed the hard hitting question to the Debakey brothers - "Do you miss your dad? " Really, Miya, how hard was it to come up with that question - or did the Bush exclusive cut into your prep time?

I agree with Hal O'Brien .
The problem is not what the prez said but that it would be considered anything controversial.
Wall St needs to have its butt whooped.

MoneyPenney: Yup, they crossed because they just got hired by rich Republicans.

Miya has just become the Robin Hood of the independent
film makers.
This video shows the American people what King George
really thinks about the peasants and mocks the benefactors
of his treasonous activities.
nice work!

The president is the most public figure we have. While he would like some privacy, he should expect none, ever. It goes with the territory. This one, who spies on everybody should expect even less.
Posted by: mr.ed | July 22, 2008 at 09:29 PM
Exactly what was there to hide here? While others do write his speaches,I expect there is a good reason for this. Bush hacks the english language so badly, that if I were him I'd want these words hidden too. The way he speaks in private displays his 'unreal southern accent", how did this fool the south? Does no one notice the language a supposed "educated man" uses? Is he joking or is this in fact just the way this idiot speaks. Why are so many fooled even now after all he has done to our country? If allowing the American people to hear how he truly feels should be hidden from public, maybe there is so much more we should have paid attention to. Since we all now know the war in Iraq was a total lie, one that has proven to make us less safe, and killed over 4000 of our soldiers, how do so many other wise intelligent people still believe in this person. Why not let the public see this? His comment about GYN's making love to their pts was much worse!

No one forced King George to leave the private sector
to become a public servant to the people.
His records and EVERYTHING he does short of the bedroom belongs to the American people he so arrogantly claims to serve.
Posted by: OgreDaddy | July 22, 2008 at 09:40 PM
Why is this being hyped as controversial. The president told the truth in a good analogy. It's not just the fault of wall street, but the greed of everyone who sought out easy money through unrealistically low i
Posted by: Jim P. | July 22, 2008 at 10:14 PM
I didn't see anything wrong with what the President said myself! God Bless our Country and God Bless our President!

I suppose what Bush says here is accurate as far as it goes. It's a rare moment of semi-candor, which he did not want seen! Of course, he accepts no responsibility for the problems. What responsibility should he accept? The Republicans and Bush in particular, refuse to regulate the financial industry. Some nonsense about that industry regulating itself, and this plays well with the American people. The problem is excessive greed causes the financial industry to do things that are not in anyone's best interest in the long term. Who could not see the problems with sub-prime mortgages? These were a bad deal all around. Sure, a few people made a lot of money for themselves for a while. Some are still finding a way to profit from other's misfortune. But these sub-prime mortgages needed to be held in check starting many years ago. Yes, even before Bush was POTUS. Bush just turned his back on this and so many other problems facing this country.
BTW. Jim P., Wall Street "sought out easy money through unrealistically easy i." There are some honest players out there, but the entire financial industry tried to make quick, easy $ off sub-prime mortgages, the government failed to regulate, and my stock-based IRA funds have done nothing in 7.5 years of this madness by Bush.
BTW. Lisa, you're an idiot. Guess you're one of the people who made some money off this disaster.
