The Swearing In

Emmettsworn_2 Okay, it's all pomp and stuff.. but still.. Harris County Commissioners Court is packed this morning.  It usually is packed, but more so than usual.  That's because after a rough and tumble election cycle, County Judge Ed Emmett won his seat.  Now, he's getting the officially swearing in ceremony.  You'll remember the Judge was appointed when his predecessor Robert Eckels left for greener pastures.  This year, the Emmett faced a hurricane called Ike, and then a political storm by the name of David Mincberg.

Mincberg mounted a serious, well funded campaign that at times turned nasty.  In the end, Emmett swam against the Democratic tide and retained his seat.  Today, he was sworn in by Judge Pat Lykos, soon to be Harris County District Attorney.Jacksonsworn

After the short swearing in ceremony, Judge Emmett quickly switched roles.  He swore in the new  District Clerk, Loren Jackson.  Jackson is one of the Democrats who won county wide.  He defeated Theresa Chang, the previous office holder.  I rode up in the elevator with Loren, the first time I met him.  A West Point graduate who got his law degree in 2003, Jackson is certainly one of the younger elected officials in the County.

My understanding was that while Mr. Jackson at one time attended West Point, he graduated from A&M, making him an Aggie.
