Who's running, and who's not...

BillkingIt appears that often talked about possible Mayoral Candidate Bill King is steering away from that bid.  We first heard rumblings about it before the elections, but things sure have firmed up since then.  Although King is never the type of person to open or shut the door completely, the door is definitely much more in the closed position than the open.

While a multitude of reasons have been bantered about for his second thoughts, the two main factors appear to be Gene Locke's possible candidacy, and the faltering economy.  We know it's already going to be a crowded field, with or without Bill King.  In fact, just today, some of my lunch partners were pushing for another well known Republican to jump into the race.  I don't think that person is interested this cycle, but you never know!

Meanwhile, back in District H land, the jockeying is on for Adrian Davila Garcia's current job.  We hear that current HISD trustee Diana Davila is one person seriously looking at the position.  Garcia's preferred candidate is Ed Gonzales, a current member of the HPD.  With Garcia's backing, it should be a competitive race, and could be fun. By the way, we're hearing lots of rumors (some too wacky to write about) relating to the positioning of Ron Green and Pam Holm for the Controller's job.  Seriously? I'm not sure what to believe.

Did I mention there's now a Facebook page dedicated to supporting Mayor Bill White to be appointed Secretary of Energy?  There were around 70 members yesterday.

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is another candidate running who is well suited for the position and was the first to announce. Her name is Karen Derr. She is a long time district H resident and successful business owner who knows the neighborhoods like the back of her hand. karenforcouncil.org
