Bill White Announces for Senate on the Internet

His website is live:  www.billwhitefortexas.com

Take a look at the video, which went live around 4:10 p.m. CST

Yes, we know a lot of people wanted him to run for Governor, especially the local party and the local state officials.  White and his folks calculated this out very carefully, and have decided on Senate.

Comment I made over at BlogHouston:

I fail to understand why "Citizen Bill" is so highly regarded by Houstonians.

I guess when one compares him to Out-of-Town Incompetent Brown, he appears spectacular.

The only thing he did that was outstanding was to immediately cover the mug shot of Lee. P. Brown at the Bush IAH Airport.

White inherited the HUD problem ( http://www.houstontx.gov/controller/aud … sponse.pdf ) the Brown administration scoundrels left for him and he never followed through to cure these problems. HUD demanded $15+ million to be repaid, so taxpayers get hosed while he failed to seek recovery from the Urban League, PSI, and Housing Opportunities of Houston, or their insurance carriers! He blamed HUD for the problem yet no one recalls the critical statements from the now mute Controller.

Brown not only blew through the billions in taxes, they issued $7 Billion in bonds in six years! It was a feeding frenzy of insiders and cronies gorging themselves with their snouts deep in the publicly funded "trough." The city pension fund was severely underfunded due to the concessions made by Brown.

The Brown administration entered into several ill-devised ventures, the worst being the Convention Center Hotel and Super-sized GRB CC "White Elephant."

Mayor White has seldom been critical of Brown's administration. He did chase off one notorious City Hall cockroach, yet others continue to lurk in the halls.

White tried to deal with the bleeding, but the bleeding continues, at taxpayer expense. Now we have a potentially bigger taxpayer liability down there. White wants to sell the Hotel boondoggle but he seemingly can't offer enough "honey" to sweeten the deal for any investor. And like a politician, he screwed that deal when he stated the city will build another taxpayer-subsidized luxury hotel next door to compete with the existing underperforming hotel. Moron!

The city employees' pension remains underfunded, and they will likely not see a penny from any sale, but cutting taxpayer losses with a liquidation of the CC Hotel should be the best taxpayers could hope for at this point.

We then have the autocratic "SafeClear" program which has cost far more than anyone could have imagined. Worse, citizens do not have the right to even change a flat tire along the shoulder of the expressways. Instead, our vulnerable loved ones are subjected to the possibility of being forced to get into a tow truck with a convicted felon!

We now are the proud owners of hundreds of $10,000 per unit parking meters which likely never will collect enough to reach the break-even point.

Mayor White continues to control the METREAUX Board, which is now a "runaway train" of bureaucratic waste and callous abuse of the bus transit dependent. Instead of improving mobility, METREAUX merely wants to build miles of unsafe urban rail, at grade, which is unreliable for our "transit backbone."

When one considers the above, he very well may be an ideal Liberal Democrat Senator who would contribute to the Obamanation.
