Like it or not, .. Locke still the game changer..
Okay, let's see the current list of "I'm definitely running!" Mayoral candidates for Houston: Controller Annise Parker. Check. Council Member Peter Brown. Check.
There's the "I'm seriously considering it!" candidates: Gene Locke, and yes, Roy Morales.
Two months ago, Locke confirmed to ABC 13 that he's seriously considering running. At that time, I wrote the following:
Locke says a number of factors got him interested, including the recent national enthusiasm in the political process. He also said that he's thought about running for mayor in years past, but wanted to wait until his kids were all grown up. He didn't say yet what would be his number one issue, just that he will be doing "a lot of listening, if I run." As for the talk that if he runs, former Gov. White will graciously make way for him, he laughed, wouldn't comment, but said "I've heard that."
What about Bill King? He's got plenty on his hands. Sure, he can still jump in the race, but most see that ship has sailed. So... which City Council at-large member should be looking out for a challenge? hmmm...
Oh, while we're on the is he or isn't he a candidate topic, George Hittner, who ran against Anne Clutterbuck and lost a few years ago, is definitely out of the local political game for awhile. He's now in Arizona, working for ATS. Yes, the red light camera people!

King v. Jones!!! :D
