Race for Controller heating up

Of course with his name matching the color of the occasion, council member Ronald Green held a St-patty campaign kick off event yesterday, on St. Patrick's Day.  Working the early shift all week, I was too tired to go check out who showed up but i got a number of text messages telling me it was a good crowd.

Green is getting ready to square off against fellow council member Pam Holm, who launched her own website this week.  As with all fancy websites, she has a video embed on the home page, where Holm speaks about fiscal responsibility.  She's also part of the whole Twitter/Facebook thing, and her current Facebook group has 20 members.

I also did a search for Ronald Green's group, but gasp! I couldn't find one! I bet someone creates a FB group real fast. But, you should go check out both Green's and Holm's website.  They are very different.

Anyway, back to the race at hand.  The good news about this race is at least we know that the twoPam_holm_logo candidates have very clear differences.  It may be a non-partisan race, but Holm is the Republican, and Green is the Democrat.  In recently weeks, Holm has stepped up her chatter at City Council.  Mainly, if there is a purchase that she doesn't like, she talks a lot about it. In addition, at those financial comittee meetings, Annise Parker's getting a lot of questions thrown at her.  Sometimes it's Holm, sometimes it's Green, and sometimes it's Peter Brown, who is running for Mayor.

Ronald-green-logo Care to handicap this one?  I've heard some snarky remarks that neither candidates have financial experience, and some people wanted a candidate with some accounting experience.  But, don't tell that to Green or Holm, both see themselves as very well qualified.  At the end of the day, it will come down to fundraising and visibility.  Raise lots of money, you have a good shot.  So, we can't wait for the finance statements!

There is indeed a Facebook page for the Green campaign. Visit www.ronaldgreen.com to link to it.

I'm a Republican but I will be supporting Ronald Green. Pam Holm does not have the intestinal fortitude to be Controller.

I cannot see her standing up to the next Mayor or a hostile Council when she has to tell them there isn't enough money for their pet projects--she'll break down in tears.

It will be interesting to see if another council member mk kahn runs for this position. there was a lot of talk one time that he will run but since then, it has been quiet. that may split the rep. votes and make it (may be) easier for council member Green.

Hi there, Ugh, I liked! So clear and positively. Thank you AnnaHopn

It should not be about who raises the most money. Ronald Green is by far the best-suitted candidate for the job. Pam Holm will never have the balls to stand up to Council. I am all about tough women but she is no Kay Bailey-Hutchinson nor a Hillary Clinton. She will need to "man up".
